Capturing prosperity from CO2 and waste final
A new report from CASE that was commissioned by the Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland, looks at the opportunities for biogenic based carbon capture and utilisation in Northern Ireland. The report examines using algae based biorefineries and vertical farming to utilise and sequester CO2 emitted from industrial processes or combustion in a Northern Ireland context. Key findings are that there is both economic and decarbonisation potential from biogenic based approaches and if coupled to biogenic sources of CO2 there is the prospect for net carbon removal from the atmosphere. Opportunities also exist to displace fossil fuel, biochemical and food imports creating local jobs and prosperity.
